Making Handwoven Wool, Hand Tied & Dyed (Bandhni)
Description
It takes months to finish such a fascinating piece of art. The Rabaris are one of the most skilled tribal communities living in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Women artisans of the community are known for the startlingly beautiful artwork that they create.
The detailed thread work on this woolen shawl has been inspired by mythology and the incredible beauty of the desert landscape. The local hand-spun wool yarn has been used to weave the piece on a traditional pit loom. Leaves of the babul tree have imparted the black colour to it. The extra weft technique used by the Bhujodi weavers is what sets their craft apart from the rest. The rich tapestry of motifs on this handmade shawl is a visual narrative that tells a lot about the history and culture of the region. Wrap it around your shoulders to turn some moments of everyday life into pure art.
