Making Hand Tied & Dyed (Bandhni), Handwoven Silk
Description
The Bhujodi weavers live and breathe their art, something that is reflected in the woven art pieces that they create. Shearing of the sheep is done by the Rabari nomads living in and around the Great Rann of Kutch. A traditional spinning wheel also known as the charkha is used to spin the yarn.
Achieving the level of intricacy required in the weaving process, takes days, even months. Organic red dye was mixed in a large earthenware vat, a deeply meditative interlude according to the dyers. The bandhani patterns have been created by the Khatri dyers on the handmade fabric, and small round mirrors have been inlaid using embroidery by the Rabari women folk, to add value to this wool-silk piece. This wondrously woven stole is a must-have in your wardrobe.
